Closure will be in effect for April 1 opening of catch-and-keep season
SHOW LOW, Ariz. — Anglers are advised that the Silver Creek Fish Hatchery property near Show Low is currently closed to public access due to safety concerns arising from localized flooding.
The hatchery experienced flash flooding early Saturday morning, March 30, caused by snowmelt runoff saturating the area. With further rainfall expected from Sunday, March 31 through Tuesday, April 2, there is a risk of additional flooding.
In consideration of public safety, the property will remain closed until it is safe to reopen. Hatchery personnel will continually assess the property conditions and monitor next week’s forecasts to determine when it is safe to reopen to the public. The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) will post and issue a communication when the determination is made to reopen.
This temporary closure affects the upcoming catch-and-keep season opening on April 1, impacting anglers from across the state who planned to visit the hatchery during this time.
AZGFD appreciates the public’s understanding and cooperation during this closure period. Updates regarding the reopening of the hatchery property will be provided as soon as they become available.
